7 minute songs are good if they are dance songs, which the new AF one is, just with *~deep~* lyrics. Their strongest songs are the ones with awesome rhythm sections and layered instruments. If their entire album is just made up of that I will be happy.
Also, these lyrics are nearly as whiny as the entirety of The Suburbs. |

Arcade Fire in general sounds like David Bowie's music with David Byrne on vocals.

I hate to admit it, but, you're not too far from the truth. I always found Bowie/Arcade Fire to be pretty similar at times. Particularly 70s Bowie anyway. I think Win Butler is far more emotive/expressive than David Byrne though.
@turtlefu on the "Whining" Suburbs: I find nothing too whiny about The Suburbs (none more so than any other Arcade Fire record), and at least its whining about something other than women's issues (joke intended incase you didn't get it from the text and the :-p) Another :-p for good measure. All I'll leave you with: You're doing yourself a major disservice by dismissing Arcade Fire, you gotta trust people on this one. There aint many bands with that solid of a run out there nowadays... seriously.

I love Arcade Fire. I don't have their second record, but I've listened to Funeral many times. I find The Suburbs too overly long in terms of number of songs that basically say the exact same theme, but the songs themselves are great. I just haven't listened to the whole thing straight through.
But I think the emotions and issues that they are focusing on, lyrically, is starting to get really repetitive. The Suburbs: growing up in the suburbs is sad, but also great, it keeps you closed off from the rest of the world, etc. etc. nothing new on the subject that hasn't already been covered by novelists and musicians anywhere since the 1960's. Sorry, that last sentence was supposed to say: Also, these lyrics are NOT nearly as whiny as the entirety of The Suburbs. Meaning, Reflektor is fun and dance-y and not too serious and I like it. I like it how at concerts the band just JAMS. My favorite performance is Haiti at the Reading festival (2007?). |

I can't remember who posted it, it might have been deadgrandma, but thanks for posting 大森靖子. Even though her voice is imperfect, I'm throughly enjoying her album.
