OMG, I thought exactly the same! Even the distorted piano at the beginning reminds me of that great song by MALICE MIZER:

MALICE MIZER - "au revoir"

Turns out that I actually prefer Sports to Daihakken. If you look at the songs individually, that is. As a whole, I'd rather listen to Daihakken - even if not much cohesive, it still flows better than expected. Sports has killer opening and closing and some very good songs in between - it has its flaws, though (I never liked Kachiikusa or Sweet Spot, and I'd pretty much every time skip Season Sayonara and FOUL). Daihakken, instead, has average to good songs with no standouts (to me at least), but it's not like I'm going to skip so many tracks when I listen to it.

Sorry, I had to post this.

Adult > Variety > Kyouiku > Dai-hakken > Sports

And Dai-hakken ranked number one on Oricon its first day with 26,439 copies sold.

I can't find complete daily numbers, but 106,831 copies of Sports were sold in the first week, and it looks like the highest daily sales (which I assume are from the first day) were 31,092. So I think those are pretty decent numbers since most established artists currently have a trend of decreasing sales anyway.

EDIT: Heh, Variety only sold 101,475 its first week and Sports sold about 12k more in the end, so never mind. I guess there could have been some upward movement.

It's misleading. Oricon does not include digital sales so it is no longer an accurate measurement of how well an album is selling.

They are still interrelated. In most cases, if an album doesn't sell well physically, it's not a huge seller digitally either.

The only thing that actually matters is that it's at the top of the chart.

What's more alarming is the lack of discussion going on in the review thread. This might be the quietest this forum has been right after a new release.
