Was listening to this over the weekend (after not having heard it for a little while, like at least a couple months) and was struck by how much space there is on the album. Despite all the details, there's a lot of space around the sound. I have no idea how this is accomplished technically, but I do think it must have something to do with the production.

good point; that's a great term, space. i think that's what variety and SG are missing. breathing room. space. they're both good but that little of bit of space would have made them much better.

about the space,

this was probably accomplished cuz each instrument was recorded separately and then mixed together, where as Variety was a band album, so the band worked on forming a cohesive sound as a band, practicing with rehearsals, then recording that, and with SG the instruments recorded were probably a combination of being seperate and in groups. KZK is probably the only record she recorded where everything was completely done seperate and mixed together at a later stage, so the tones in each instrument sounds distinct and isn't being muted or bled by the others.

you could argue that there were other things 'wrong' with it, but to me, that was my main problem. seeing kuro's post, though, i see that they were also talking about space in terms of how each instrument sounds in comparison to the others, but i meant it more as in it just felt too crowded, too much. i still dig, it whenever it pops up, though.

So you ignore the other problems. I see.

that's not what i'm saying. the problems you might find were not big of a deal for me, at least not enough to ruin the album for me. that one main problem is where it bothered me in terms of replaying the album heavily. it's too much for that.
