dude, we're not abandoning everything . Like usual, most songs, all the lyrics and the music directions are still done by shiina. Shiina just takes a lesser role in vocal part. It still a shiina directed music band. Maybe Shiina have a 1-2 solo song on the album but most song will be sang by the new vocalist with shiina as backup. If we can get a good vocalist, that can sing shiina's songs that way shiina likes it. I think it's a good idea. shiina can still do her solo albums to satisfy her fans who likes her voice. |

This is something she should do only after she retires and steps down from the spot light.

If she were to stop singing for TJ and just write songs/play guit for them, I wouldn't mind as long as she was bringing her solo career back.
Otherwise... Just no. I have the feeling I'd still buy their stuff though :/ |

She's not trying to appeal to our friends in America. Anybody who thinks she has an "anime" voice is just ignorant, and basically means "she sings in Japanese." She has a large and devoted fan base in Japan, and letting some other vocalist sing her songs would be a dumber idea than Hirama thinking he should quit TJ and make solo albums.

The way I see it, if Shiina Ringo could produce Tomosaka Rie, then she can produce Tokyo Jihen without singing for Tokyo Jihen. I'm not sure what purpose that would serve, even if Tokyo Jihen had a replacement female vocalist. The only thing it would mean was that Kameda wasn't the band's producer anymore, but why would Shiina Ringo need to step down as vocalist in order for that to happen? We need Tokyo Jihen to premiere more material like Shoujo Robot, not merely cover it. If we had Variety with another female vocalist (and no singing from any of the guys), then Tokyo Jihen would quite possibly be the most unoffensive anime-pluggable Japanese band pumping out music today. That's completely selling out, rather than borderline selling out. I guess a lot of gaijin veteran fans are very bitter about Variety, that they figured if Tokyo Jihen were going to fuck it up, they might as well have gone all the way, and on the flipside of a yin/yang reality, Shiina Ringo would've simultaneously pumped out one of the least publicly embracable solo-career albums ever, then all would be right in the world. |

I don't think there's a need for it, and if she even came close to do it now it would be a bad career move. As mentioned earlier, she's already achieved success and popularity in Japan doing what she's done--I realize she isn't perceived as mainstream on these boards, but in Japan, as long as you crack the Oricon and are discussed with any sort of relevancy you're ok--the reason I see it as being a bad move is that it's just too radical, especially right now. When you look at the changes between Kyoiku, Adult, and Variety, it seems like (as far as Tokyo Jihen is concerned) the members are still feeling out what the next best step is. Taking Shiina out would be a big move backwards. Her fanbase and level of success are enough to shake any doubt really. A lot of people in Japan wouldn't care about Tokyo Jihen if she wasn't in it.

Er, no, we know just how popular she is in Japan, and thus how "mainstream." But she still does her own thing and pretty much says 'fuck it' to any record label trying to control her nowadays, which is a lot more than other top-Oricon-charting artists can say.
