Prefer the beginning, end, or middle...not so much the rest
Here's a topic for some picayune sorting out.
There are SR/TJ songs that start out one way, and then shift, in rhythm or otherwise. Sometimes I think this really works, in that each different movement is fully realized and it all comes together, like in Jusui negai or Shukyou, but then there are songs where I get pulled out and start preferring one bit of it. Like Sid to Hakuchuumu, the beginning of which I can't really stand but then it ends great. Or Himitsu and Kabuki that start out great for me and then sort of go off the rails. (Actually, a lot of songs on the Adult album are like that...) I'm curious how it is for others on here: are there songs you love only a piece of, but can't stand the rest, or think doesn't measure up to the part(s) that you like? |

Why only focus this on TJ/SR? This happens to pretty much every band ever at times. Unless its Sunn O))) or Earth etc.

I really love the beginning of Akane Sasu (Zazen Ver.). The hi-hats sound so great. I really want to learn how to do that on the drums.

The start of many songs from MM (Tadashi Machi, Kokode, Morphine)and SS(Benkai Debussy, Tsuki ni Makeinu, Byoushou Public) really put me off to them. Though most of the songs are actually good, I think they way they start sounds QUESTIONABLE.

And let's not forget Sakana, the misleading beginning of all songs of all time!

I don't mind the beginning to be honest, but the ending cutting off has bothered me SINCE THE BEGINNING OF TIME. I wondered forever if that was actually how it ended, and now that I know it's intentional it bothers me even more.

Someone else once told me they couldn't stand the beginning of Sakana, and that they were often ignoring the rest of the track because of that. I wouldn't get rid of that, because I view it as a pre-song which.. PREPARES you for the rest of the song.

When it comes to the 4 ringo solo albums, they all feel like a whole, so nitpicking a part of one track on them (for me at least) seems futile. As far as TJ, nitpick all you want, only Adult seems to be its own entity, the others are collections of songs to me.
