Been listening to 299792458 by Mariko Goto a fair bit.
What do I think of it? As a cute pop album (the way its been described), it really delivers. But I'm not sure if its just a simply nice, catchy breeze of an album or if something else is going on underneath its somewhat simple surface. I feel with repeated listening I will be able to decide what I really think of it. I certainly am enjoying it a fair bit, but whether or not it will be a long lasting album is yet to be revealed. I do think, however, those really looking for Midori should probably approach with caution, this album really takes attack with its Kawaii approach and force feeds its sugar coating right down your throat. If you're like me and don't mind a bit of this now and then, go for it. An interesting album that I imagine being fan dividing. I'll be interested to hear other opinions on this one.

I don't know why I like this so much, but I really do. It's the first pure pop song since the first time I listened to first solo era Ringo where I wasn't sure I'd like everything by the same artist (it's fairly mainstream after all) but it overwhelmed to the extent that that was OK, I was happy to take this in and only move on to other things when ready, no expectations. I can't claim it sounds like MM or SS, not at all, but there's the same level of little surprises in there: a well thought out intro that foreshadows the main body of the song but doesn't give it away; a nice bridge appears where you don't expect it; a buildup and release; that kind of thing. It's a silly comparison. I can't fully get a familiar footing, and that's good. Andou Yuuko may be old news on this forum, I don't know. Maybe it would be new for people if I posted it somewhere else. But I like this track. Last edited by so_cold : 2012.07.25 at 01:19 PM. |

^ Nothing silly there, it's a beautiful and interesting song. Thanks for sharing, I'll dig more into her music.
