Granted, the top 2 never bothered me as much for whatever reason. Nakata's was kinda expected cause it's Nakata and Kodoku at least we already got a non-autotuned version, which sucked but not quite as much. The other 2 didn't cause teeth clenching either.

Ultimately, the use of it in a Shiina Ringo release seems so damn redundant though, we know she's a good vocalist. So why even bother putting it in? Does anyone actually like the sound? I guess they must cause it sold quite a bit.

It just feels inauthentic for some reason. Like she's doing auto-tune because that's what all the kids are into these days.

You're right of course; but somehow those first two don't seem to "count" quite the way that NMM does. Probably for the reasons you suggested.

The other electronic song you're thinking of may be Kachuu no Otoko. It took me a couple of listens to get used to it, but I actually quite liked that one, and I loved the version from Expo 14 with her electronically processed voice over the orchestra - I wish she had done it live with the effect and all. I guess I didn't count that one either because it seemed like a solid artistic choice in that case. So in answer to your question, I would say yes, it can actually sound good if it's done with care.

NMM does not seem like that though; the electronic effects really feel like a misstep. It's desperately crying out for an unprocessed version.

Pretty sure I've said this, but she could at least release this newer material under that joke name (Deyonna) she had for Rekishi's track if she wants to release this style of stuff. Then I'd know to expect NOTHING.

What was the point of that false name anyway, if nothing ever came of it?

I really loved the sound of the Nakata song in Toutaikai, the way the processed vocals fit over the string arrangement. It might actually be one of my favourite moments of that show, even if she didn't actually perform the song.
