The Cat Empire
The forum's search engine was unable to dig up any posts on a band that I think more people should be exposed to: The Cat Empire. I'll try to introduce them here. From what I've heard, I would describe their signature sound as a energetic chaos with a brass ensemble blasting over cool keyboard grooves and infectious tunes sung by two vocal leads with distinct qualities. I like how all the these elements are combined to form a coherent whole. Wikipedia as described their sound as

So today I discovered The Kinks. I knew they sang "You Really Got Me", but I had no idea they also made "All Day and All of the Night" (and Lola, which I've had in my head since last night.) But what surprised me most was that these songs were in the mid-60's! How could anyone care about the Beatles after hearing All Day and You really got me? Those were new sounds, thats today kinda music. I'm convinced "I Feel Fine" and "Day Tripper" were The Beatles trying to sound like the Kinks. I know John woul have been envious.

I discovered The Kinks last year and listened to them none stop for a while. I'd heard all the major singles though; You Really Got Me, All Day and all of the Night, Waterloo Sunset, Lola, Days, Tired of Waiting For You, Sunny Afternoon. I still haven't dug deep into their discography.
CLT: Blink 182 - Enema of the State. Ah, I used to love these guys when I was 12. Thought I'd give it a spin since they got back together. So fun and I don't feel a little big guilty

I always assumed that You Really Got Me was a Van Halen original.
Shows what little I know. Currently Listening To: Rammstein - Mein Herz Brennt

I need another Justice to define my year of electronic music. There is absolutely nothing that tops their debut in terms of pure hard drunken* dance. Time to wake the neighbours.

Love Will Tear Us Apart- Joy Division
my teacher played us a song by the Cure (How Beautiful You Are) and the synth-i-ness of it made me want to hear this song...from my perspective the 80's mostly sucked but that's only because I wasn't around then and all I really dislike about it is the popular culture...I mean...leg warmers...seriously...?
