After all, Ringo uses tons of words that people in modern day Japan don't use at all.
You'll sound like you're from the Showa-era.

And even Japanese people don't understand Ringo's lyrics.

Thank you all for your advice, even if it was unsolicited. I've actually already been studying Japanese language and culture for several years (formally), and recognize her lyrics as being opaque. I would study Ringo's lyrics because that is the Japanese I want to understand most, it's really my choice whether it suits my purposes or not...

I'm a new advocate of English lyrics. When you can sing along with a song and the lyrics resonate without your having to 'interpret it the way you like' it makes your SR-love that much stronger. Robbie Clark, EMF lurker, well done! Bards were important in history for a reason.

I just want to add that regardless of what Bokoku Joucho's lyrics are about, the music itself sounds like a military song, the kind of music the army bands would play while a group of soldiers march through.

@EntryNo1

I wasn't meant to be insulting. Of course you've been studying Japanese for several years, nobody just jumps in N3 (JLPT basically killed me so I have no plans to take that again anytime soon). It wasn't so much a criticism directed towards you as a general rumination on Shiina's lyrics and how they aren't "normal" Japanese. But I apologize for the condescending remarks.
