I agree with what a_grumble_cake says--I think what embarrasses her most about her early career is probably not so much the music itself as what memories she associates with it. How her vision with Honnou was so wildly misinterpreted and became kind of popculture/comedy fodder, when she was seriously referencing her relationships with hospitals, and her kind of space punk vision for the video. I think she leaves most of her styling up to other people these days.

With Netsuai vs Honnou outfits: I think there's a difference in people reading her nurse outfit as weird/sexual when she intended it to have more meaning than that, vs what I assume is her confidently displaying her body in a way that to me feels as much as for her as for the audience (I particularly feel this way post-tsugou no ii karada MV which shows cartoon ringo with a particularly buxom figure)

Also, what happened with KZK -- first, I've seen it said in older interviews that she herself thought she only had it in her to create 3 albums. Take that as you will. She has also said since the very early stages of her professional career that she makes music because she wants people to hear it. KZK didn't really have any tracks meant to be received the way that Kokokiss, Honnou, Gibs, etc. were, but similar to how yattsuke shigoto changed between ZX and KZK, it's possible that the changes her life took during pregnancy came out a lot more than we are aware of in the final product of KZK. Lack of time is also definitely a factor (she admitted in an interview that she can only give 100% for her tie-ins, for example, and that she simply lacks long periods of open time to dedicate to writing the way she could when she was young/didn't have a family to raise).

I think to be an involved fan of Ringo's at this stage, you may have to kind of consider the circumstances she is dealing with right now before making then/now sort of comparisons. :\ her approach is probably just different. I would also like to see more exploration and experimentation from her, but whether she has/makes the time to go there is just something we have to wait and see...?

these are my thoughts, anyway!

I got an e-mail from CD Japan this morning announcing the release of this book, to which Shiina Ringo is cited as a contributor:

Adult Nikaido Fumi Ga Kita Otona No Hanashi First Part

Does anybody have any idea what exactly this is? Because it kinda sounds like porn.

It's a collection of interviews actress Nikaidou Fumi (a big fan of Ringo, and someone Ringo also seems to have her eye on) did for her column in men's fashion magazine, Popeye. It's called adult I guess because the interviews were done from when she was 19 to 20 years old.

I remember the interview with Ringo being between 2 or 4 pages or so, including photographs. Any new material is likely to be of Fumi herself, but we will see. I don't recall that Ringohan has done an official announcement yet regarding the material either.

It's on Kronekodow since Sep 24

But I ignored cause it didn't interest me at the time/seemed insignificant

But for those who do care, some more info here

http://magazineworld.jp/books/paper/2794/

Personally I think I'm done buying magazines I can't read haha. I grabbed that Quotation special issue between Mika Ninagawa and Ringo last and the English translation was pretty... Yoda. Has to be something like RingoBook if I'm gonna fork out from now on :-p

Woops, missed the Kronekodow announcement! I get so much info through unofficial channels that I'm missing the main one...! (or I saw it and forgot where )

I'd agree that if you can't read it/don't have interest in anyone in the book besides Ringo, it's probably not worth buying!

It's not just Ringo I'm talking about- it's everyone. I won't even buy magazines featuring a couple pages of Oomori either now (hell even when people translate her interviews, noone knows wtf she's talking about haha). Lucky her albums usually come with heaps of pages (look at the Sennou photobook!- 80 fucking pages!) of photos haha

I could maybe make an exception if Jun Togawa featured in something because it's been way too long since I saw her in an interview for anything- 2004 was last mainstream (as in non-underground free magazine) one I've found.

Looks like Ringo is up for a VMA for the Nagaku Mijikai Matsuri PV:

LINK

Apparently, the winner in each of 10 categories is being selected by popular vote. Voting runs through November 7th at 11:59 pm, with results to be announced on November 9th at noon.

Has tour merch been revealed yet?

While I may not have much nice to say about current output, that recent Ringohan shirt (the one with the guitar/skeleton on tour logo) is all sorts of awesome...

The merchandise hasn't revealed yet. Btw, it's possible that Ringo will open a tour-dedicated twitter, similar to that of Amuro.

Ahah. So I didn't pay for my ticket in time, and lost it. I had to get a 16,000 yen resold one for the Oct. 14th show. On the bright side that's in A WEEK!!

Also...

Photo "Garally"?? Really??

I didn't realize EMI had become Universal, that makes me really sad...
