She wrote both lyrics and music.
What's wrong with show tunes?

There was nothing wrong with them. For a long time, I really dug them. But... they're so DONE now, funny thing is, many people who hated on them before are warming to them this late in the game, it's kinda weird. Ultimately, I just really hope she drops the DIVA bullshit now. Surely she's over it after the fall?
Onto the real tour in Japan... fingers crossed there's some real fire in her peformances.

Anyway, Kamisama, Hotokesama seems conceptually most related to the tour (parade of monsters) and her perf of it last night was pure fire IMO, so I think we can expect something great

Eh, if it were up to me, she could put out another album or two of them and I would be very happy. Then again I really like show tunes...

I think it's a bit reductive to dismiss all of those songs as just 'show tunes'.
Omatsuri sawagi is obviously very different from Onna no ko is very different from Shizukanaru gyakushu is different from Assassin's Assassin... As long as she continues to surprise me with what she is doing within this 'genre' (if you can call it that) I'm cool with it. |

I guess ultimately the exact moment my love of Ringo's showtunes/cabaret style stuff started dimming after I discovered
And heard the real potential this genre can live up to... I mean. Holy fuck. But I suppose this will happen for a lot of things in life.

Weird. I was planning to order that CD this week.
My philosophy is, there's plenty of room at the top. I don't see why I can't like both Togawa and Ringo. One does not diminish the value of the other.

Oh, sorry for the miscredit. Maybe I tend to associate Uki to their black-american genred songs. Doesn't help that I read the title as close to Otoko-Onna

Actually, that's Ringo's influence too. She is known to be a fan of Motown, especially Marvin Gaye.
