Where do I start with Shiina Solo Stuff.
I love the two TJ albums, but do not have any solo albums by Shiina R.
I have seen a few clips on youtube and from what I have seen (limited as it is) I really love Ishiki - the instrumentals remind me a little of the Pan Am Yoshinori Sunahara stuff. I would like to hear more of her solo stuff and really don't know where to start. Do you have any suggested album that I should get first, ones not to bother with etc, also anything that sounds like the Ishiki? |

I'd start with the first (Muzai Moratorium) and work your way forwards (Shouso Strip second, then KZK). KZK is my favourite Shiina album, but I wouldn't recommend starting with it, just as I wouldn't recommend Kid A as a Radiohead album for a first listener.

You could just skip it altogether. It's not awful, but I went by without listening to it for a year or 2 and I don't feel like I've gained anything from listening to it. Particularly as it is cover's.

If you search for the Ishiki sound, then you should definitely start with Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana. It IS the best, and if you like Ishiki, then you shouldn't have any problem with it.
The rest sound a bit more like Tokyo Jihen, only better

^Wow, I don't think her albums sound anything like TJ. Kyouiku is the closest sounding to any of her older work but even then I think its a completely different style. ADULT is definitely not like any of her older albums either.
I'd recommend Mayonaka wa Junketsu as it is my favorite single but nothing on the albums is like that single so I don't know if it would be so good to start there, but you should definitely get to it soon. |

Definitely start from the beginning...you can see the evolution of her music. Everything she's made is awesome

All of her 3 original albums released as a solo artist are not to be missed. Unlike other artists, there's nothing you can be advised to skip here.
