I've never been impressed with this version of the song. But new performances are always neat to see.
Has anyone heard anything about the anniversary concerts? edit: Err, when are these concerts exactly? I thought she was doing one on her birthday. Last edited by fluffiethesock : 2008.11.26 at 01:23 PM. |

Here's Tokyo Jihen's full performance at Society of the Citizens vol. 2.
http://www.veoh.com/videos/v16729304Pw4tgrhd You need to sign up for Veoh and install their media player to download the 900+MB file (if you're not content with watching it online), but then you'll have it in .avi and you can uninstall the player. I for one am in love with this concert. Besides maybe Kabuki and OSCA, their energy really shows so much more than in Spa & Treatment. The end of Senkou Shoujo was the best. |

Hmm, I don't think this has been posted here yet, it's the Rising Sun concert from 2008. I haven't watched it yet but I skimmed through and noticed Hata is wearing the headphones in Senkou Shoujo. He also did this in the Society of Citizens one and I think every other time they've played this song. Does anyone know why?

Drummers often wear monitors or headphones for a number of reasons, but usually it's because they want to hear the audio feed from the rest of the band especially for the faster/quieter songs where it's harder to hear the rest of the band clearly. Often because their own drumming is too loud to hear over or because they are at the back of the stage and can't hear the rest of the band over the main PA speakers. Sometimes it's so they can hear additional input from pre-recorded music/backing tracks too.
Some people think it's the mark of a poor drummer to wear headphones but that simply isn't true, it's usually an aid to concentration or even the only way they can hear the rest of the band, especially in big arenas or outdoor events. A few drummers though have click tracks which are like a metronome playing in their headphones that help them keep time, but I'm pretty sure Hata-san doesn't need that. If a drummer is only hearing headphones for certain songs, I would presume that they need to synchronize to a click track for that tune. To faithfully reproduce songs that have some elements that would be difficult or impossible to recreate on stage, bands these days use a computer to play back certain tracks. The drummer then has to "slave" to the master sync signal from the computer.

quote from my brother who plays drums "Not always just a click track, for certain songs I just prefer a feed direct from the soundboard of the bass since the guitarists often do alot of improvisation, but more than anything I get a full live feed from the band because it's what I'm used to. Also click tracks are useful if we haven't played a song for a long time and the vocalist (usually) wants to play a different tempo or something and if I'm unfamiliar with the song, a click track (usually mixed in to the backing track) is a godsend"
I guess there are lots of reasons. I'm not sure what most of that means as I don't play live or anything, But yeah the additional computer input from pre-recorded music is usually piped into the drummers too. |

Ahh, I see. I've seen a lot of drummers wear the little earbud things and I figured the reason was that they needed to hear the other guys because they were too loud but I just found it odd that Hata only did it for a few songs. I guess I'm impressed that he doesn't used them all the time, then.
