I'm such a nerd.
My first CD purchase was Peter & The Wolf. When I finally bought nonclassical music, it was several CDs in the same purchase. Mostly Rammstein and Paul Oakenfold.

The first CD I bought was Moist's "Creature" when I was 13.
For cassettes... well I won a gift certificate for a music store and I chose some children show related-music. The first cassette I bought while saving my own money was the New Kids On The Block (the one that had Step by Step)... I was in 2nd or 3rd grade I think. NKOTB were the first and last of my boyband crazes though. I bought 1 or 2 teen magazines (in English), even though I couldn't read a single word out of them, just to have more pictures and posters to put on my wall. |

I believe I have you beat on both embarrassing and old. The first I bought with my own money was by joining the Columbia Record Club, so it was actually 12 albums for 1 cent (plus S&H of course). I don't remember all of the albums, but they included Out Of The Blue by ELO, Pieces of Eight by Styx, Chicago's Greatest Hits, and a Chuck Mangione album. If that's not embarrassing enough, I got all 12 on 8-Track tape! My first record I bought was a few years before this, and it was a 45 rpm single of a disco song "Hot Line" (I don't even remember who it was by). |

My first was Pearl Jam's "Ten". I still think that's a very good album.

Macy Gray's "On How Life Is" and Aqua's "Aquarium." At least for the former, I can certainly see that my obsession with unconventional voices was there since the beginning.

XDDD I watched some videos on YouTube of her shows in US, but I find it very strange to see her speaking in english... It just doesn't seem right... (and as Lena said, she did a porn movie when she was young. Pretty bad porn, and with an underage kid. ) Anyway, I think the first CD I ever bought was Simply Red - Stars. I still have the mp3s in my HD and listen to it now and then. |
