I was chatting with some students recently and one of them liked Ringo a lot. Her favorite song, though, was Koko de kisu shite.

Woah! I don't really get that song, but I guess her perfect anthem for girls and young women still has its power

I like that simple repetitive song. :| (Well, a lot of Ringo's songs are repetitive, that I guess she makes it interesting in other areas)
It's just so catchy and moving.

Yeah, I get the same sense from other young people, that they appreciate the "classics" but not the new stuff. It's like, when she fits a specific genre (rebel-girl rock) she makes a cultural impact, but when she becomes her own genre or part of a band people don't know what to make of it except it's some kind of (high-quality) performance art.

I hear the same thing from other cultural observers in Japan, that whenever they ask "what's the good new stuff?" they always hear, "nothing new is good."

Nagaku Mijikai Matsuri / Kamisama, Hotokesama is already out of print on cdjapan, HMV, and I think Amazon as well (there are overpriced copies available from marketplace sellers).

It either was another very limited release kind of deal or I dunno. I wonder what the sales are for this single

It was a first-press only single! No idea what the sales are (it's #3 on recochoku's page for Top 30 newest hit songs you hear when you're out and about) but I'm seeing copies selling for about 777~1000 yen on second hand sites being bought up immediately :O This was even without the insert for the concert tickets, the entry period for which is already over. I hear NMM on the radio at the grocery store a lot, but I guess people must really be enjoying... Either it in spaces where they need the CD to listen to it or at least want the visual treat that the packaging offers, since the songs can be bought online :O

ETA the single peaked at 6 on Oricon weekly ranking on August 17th (which I guess accounted for releases between August 03 - 09) which... doesn't really answer your question still, but...

So is her new marketing scheme to release only limited quantities of everything, thereby creating a shortage and increasing buyers' sense of urgency as well as the price they're willing to pay? If so it seems to be working.

I recently saw an auction for Expo14 (I think an unopened BD) going for about twice the original price (over maybe around 13000 when I last checked...)

I don't really know what to make of it, but I guess it's overall good to not have stock sitting around :/ it sucks for people who couldn't buy it (for financial reasons) before it sold out though

Wife: Play that God, Buddah song!
Me: (Reluctantly starts it up)
Wife: From the start
Me: What? I did start it from the start
Wife: Where's the Japanese drums bit?
Me: They're only on the video, not on the actual song
Wife: WHAT! That's the best part!
Me: (Facepalm and laugh heartily, realising that she's right...)

You know something's up when someone with a passing interest thinks the tacked on intro on the video clip is the most interesting part of the song... :-p
