I'm late, minna-san.
It's not that I'd not like to post. This community has been blocked by the You-know-who Party of China for over a month now. I have to always log on and read posts via web proxies. But when I'm posting proxies always filter all the HTML codings that the community adds automatically to every post, so I have to add HTML code to every post myself. It's such a drugery.... Back on topic. As for sources you can simply search "椎名林檎 空遥" in Google and you'll likely receive 50+ entries referring to that. One of them is a 2ch thread talking about that, others are webpages & blog entries. Of course, non of them are official. As for Frecklegirl's point, I believe your dictionary has authority; But NONE of the sources ever doubt about whether the name's right for a boy. Yes they kept talking about that the name was not read in a common way, and the name may give the kid trouble when he's learning music; But none of them said it's not a boy's name. Maybe your dictionary's not updated enough? Through the search we can find still more interesting points. But since I don't know how to give web links in HTML codes...You can see them for yourselves... |

Haruka is also a girls name.
Didn't Yumi admit she always wanted to have a daughter? Sonata could really be the feminine name of one screwed up boy. Even if we were to go with the other kanji reading, his name would still be a girls name. he can get his revenge on mom when he gets a little older. |

About if it is a female name, in japan there are several names that can be used for both boys and girls (Akira, Kaoru, Jun...) so I don't think that is a problem

EMF is blocked by China? Oooohh... I feel special They had to take time out of their day just to come and block us! Maybe they even reviewed the site itself for oh so inappropriate content!! I'm flattered :3
There are, but this is a different case. If it were a unisex name, the dictionary would have said "Sonata [m, f]" which is what it says for those other names. In this case it only said [f]. It doesn't invalidate the name, but it makes the theory a bit more complicated. |

No way, Freckles. They blocked every vBullitin powered community, giving you better understanding on what a "harmonious society"(President Hu Jintao, 2005) really is.
