Maybe it's just her voice, but she's so booooring. I hated her cover of Umbrella and this is even worse.
And in response to the nearly-2 month old discussion: I don't know how Ringo isn't considered rock. She's got upbeat catchy songs, but she's rock through and through in musical orientation and persona. Much like another one of my favorite artists, The Smiths -- their music is based upon catchy riffs and upbeat songs, getting a lot of inspiration from the 60s girl sounds and the more simplistic rockabilly sounds of the 50s. And no one ever questions their placement in rock because at the core they're rock. It's the same with Ringo -- she obviously likes pop and jazz music, but she's rock based and rock oriented. And rock is where fusion is pretty much the basis of development, which is what Ringo excels at. She's not as consistently heavy as the likes of Metallica or Led Zeppelin, but that is not the singular defining feature of rock. There is no one defining feature, which is why it is such a broad genre of music. But I will not say Ringo belongs anywhere else. Last edited by mizer_unmei : 2009.05.01 at 10:58 AM. |

Worthy of the rock and roll hall of fame! Why hasn't anyone picked up on this girl yet! oh Marie Digby, you never cease to amaze me!
This is my favorite song by you marie digby : http://www.audioleaf.com/aclarioncall/ EDIT: Why can't I come here without talking about Bjork, Tori Amos, and Led Zepplin (of all people). I guess it's better than hearing you guys rave about Malice Mizer. |

I always thought it was absurd that there's such cultural identity crisis in Asia that everyone readily calls their countries pop music J-pop, K-pop or C-pop. The letters even correspond to the English word for said countries (not to mention being written in english letters).
Avril Lavigne, that's REAL pop. This here, this is just some J-pop. Also note that 99.5% of music thrown into a J-category sucks. hard. |

99.5 % of the music thrown into J-pop is generally most everything you have ever heard. Go into Tower records or any store in japan and j-pop is pretty much the entire store. they don't make a differentiation between pop, rock, visual, all that jazz. the only stuff that would get separated would be things like enka, classical, soundtracks, etc.

Well that sucked. A lot.
I remember watching her Umbrella cover as well, going "What's the deal?". She's just boring. :/ |

I don't think it's THAT bad. Of course, it doesn't stand a chance against the original recording, but I can think of a dozen of other ways to cover it that would suck much more.
I'm sure it's not the worse Shiina Ringo cover we'll see... In fact, what's the *best* (less bad?) SR/TJ cover you've heard? |
