For those interested, TOKUMA are pressing all the old Perfume albums up to LOVE THE WORLD on vinyl early next year. Put in this thread cause I don't wanna start a 2016 thread just yet.

Also, if you want them all, there's a boxset with everything in it.

Personally, I'd only be interested in GAME and Triangle methinks.

I'm curious about phenomenon of Perfume. I've never researched them thoroughly, but isn't their music just generic (j)pop?

I'm asking, because people here may listen to mainstream music, but it needs to have some twist - anti-idols etc.

Perfume are produced by Nakata, aren't they? Known for Capsule, KPP, etc. I haven't listened to them extensively, but I've checked out some songs. Music isn't terrible and often pretty catchy. The girls can't sing, so expect tons of auto-tune and effects on their voices.

We have some people on the boards that are into j/k-pop groups.

I'd only call JPN and the singles since mainstream or generic J-pop. Game era, Triangle era, and LEVEL3 are more electropop.

For me there's not really a "twist" to Perfume; when they were at their best during the Game and Triangle eras you saw everything good about Nakata in full display: rock-solid production, bold synth programming, and inventive phrasing. Such as...

Unfortunately, Perfume has always lived and died by Nakata, and most of his current output is just lifelessly mediocre. Not bad, at least from a production standpoint, just...not good.

I wouldn't say they can't sing. They sounded alright on that Disney special and that featured no vocoder or autotune...

Also @zordon: Their two GOOD albums, GAME and (especially) TRIANGLE are pretty damn great, you can take them as pretty seriously hard hitting electro stuff. Just listen to a track like Edge...

Edge

Hits harder than a motherfucker. IMO, it's their masterpiece.

After that however, it's hit and miss... lately more miss than hit.

Damn. This inspired me. https://deadgrandmablog.wordpress.co...ll-damn-sharp/

Thanks for shedding some light on their work. 'Edge' is indeed quite entrancing so it gives me hope that I might find some more enjoyable songs.

It's been 12 months and I still can't formulate a cohesive opinion on 3776. I have no idea what I'm supposed to think about their new album.
