Default Midori

anyone listen to midori? They are kind of a hardcore/jazz/punk infusion band.
they were underground but have gotten a lot of mainstream exposure and remain one of those cult bands currently. their vocalist is mariko has some of the most ridiculous vocals I think I've hear in recent memory outside of anything other than anime. anywheres, here are two tracks from their first album, First, which I think are pretty good examples of what I mean.

I listened to each song twice... Uhm I really am not used to that type of jazz. The first song was hard to swallow, but when it slowed down, I was in heaven, lol. The second song was more to my liking. Uhm... I have not heard of many japanese jazz groups/singers. Are they all underground? Anyways, I guess now I must do some research on midori (what does their name mean since it is written in katakanna? Does it still mean green?)

And the first track sounds like the whole of Adult being covered at once by Melt Banana and Maximum The Hormone.

I like the drink Midori:

I love them. They're like this crazy version of Tokyo Jihen, like all of them are high on drugs or whatever. And the lead singer sounds a little like Ringo sometimes, with the whole catty voice thing. But, she can screeeeeeeeam.

This stuff sounds pretty cool...but it'll be hard for me to forgive them for what I've heard of their cover of Music Fighter.

Waaaaat?
That cover is brilliant. It is so out of place in the compilation that it wins just because of that. To be honest, I haven't heard the entire album yet, only the artists that interested me.

I'll give you out of place, but I don't know about brilliant. Some of it sounds really good, but the keyboard mashing and just general clash of instruments during the main part of the song just sounds like trash. I don't mean to sound rude, but it bothers me when people praise something that isn't done often just because it hasn't been done often. In most cases, it's not done because it doesn't sound good.

(None of this is meant in mean spirits. )
