My faves:
SR - probably Onaji ni, although Ichijiku no Hana is high on my list also TJ - Rakujitsu Least faves: SR - if Gips is included, then Gips (always been my least fave SR single) TJ - I believe Kao counts as a ballad. That song is my most frequently skipped TJ song. As far as Karada, I actually love that song as a nice cool jazz number. |

Is Ichijiku no hana considered a ballad? That song is not sad at all...

I have little or no idea of what could be considered a 'ballad', because I am too musically uneducated (despite the fact that I know how to play three instruments). I am probably one of the very last people you want to ask about (sub-)genre classification.
That's why I'm not going to make a real post in this thread - because I realize that I don't know what I'm talking about. I would rather just admit I'm ignorant, than struggle to appear knowledgeable. Or I could just remain completely silent about the problem and allow people to assume I'm better at this than I really am - but I am coming out of the closet because I figure I am not alone.

To call a sappy slow song a ballad is a safe bet XD
I think she crossed that territory over with stuff like Yami ni furu ame, which I think is much much better than Gibusu. Yume no ato just sprang to my mind, that was a great one. I prefer the HF version though, and speaking about TJ ballads, Rakujitsu wins without any competition for me. |

Ballads aren't necessarily sad.
Think Bon Jovi, don't think Ichijiku no hana qualifies.

The problem with this thread is that most of these songs are not ballads. Gibs, Shuukyou, Tsuki ni Makeinu, and Onaji Yoru are not ballads. Studio Odaijini has too quick of a tempo to be a ballad.

From American Heritage Dictionary:
(ballad) NOUN: 1a. A narrative poem, often of folk origin and intended to be sung, consisting of simple stanzas and usually having a refrain. b. The music for such a poem. 2. A popular song especially of a romantic or sentimental nature. See the second definition? I think Gibusu fits pretty nicely. Or is it too quick? |

If you're going by that definition, every single Tokyo Jihen song is a ballad because SR said the point of joining a band was to narrow down her lyrical focus to say "I love you" in all her songs. I suppose you could call Gibs power ballad, but definitely not a ballad.

Meh. I know Tsuki ni Makeinu isn't really a ballad. It's just hard thinking of one I really don't like by her solo. I figured I'd get some crap for that one though. >_>
And you'd really say Odaiji ni recording isn't a ballad, Maou? It always seemed like one to me. It has that sentimental vibe I usually get from ballads. And how did I forget Ichijiku no Hana??? That's one of my favorite songs by her! Ugh.... well, I'd probably take that one over Odaiji ni anyway. That's just a fantastic song.

I haaaate Onaji Yoru. I always skip it.
If we can count Kokoro, then I'd count that as my favorite. |
