And whether or not they're a "by-product of using you're voice as an instrument", it's worth taking a look at if they're particularly clever. Which in this case, they are.
Don't take it out on everyone else if you don't like to read. |

I never investigated the meaning of her lyrics, and I get the feeling that it would ruin my interpretation, or rather my "visualization" of a song if I knew what they were about. I have images that I associate with most songs. Basically, some sort of video clip that I make up based on her voice, without knowing the lyrics.
Maybe few people do that. I think the reason is that my first language is French, but I have listened to English music from way before I even knew the language, so I never paid attention to lyrics and always only saw vocals as an additional, but very versatile and emotive instrument. Even today I try to block out English song lyrics, or focus only on single sentences that touch me with no regards for their actual context. For example, my image and "story" of Koufoukuron from Muzai Moratorium is really fun, but violent, and knowing the lyrics would ruin it. It actually involves a cute girl getting her revenge on bullies whenever the main chorus comes back in more and more violent ways It's also my main "final sprint" song for workouts. I run at 8mph but do a 10mph sprint that can last not a second longer than Koufoukuron. So without knowing any actual lyrics from Sanmon Gossip... I like the lyrics from the 5th and 6th song best. Just don't tell me what they are about! |

The only time I care for Lyrics if they are In-your-face stupid, like most hip hop and gangsta rap music.
Maybe I listen to too many artists that don't use the voice at all, or sing in languages that I don't even understand. But even when they are in english or german, they don't make a song better or worse for me.

yeah, I mentioned that waaaay back when I got the album and read the lyric booklet, but no one seemed to care. we had all gotten so used to calling it maru chiten kara.
also, in regards to japanese on a whole, when giving out telephone numbers and talking about "o" versus "0" it is much the same as in English when people say " five two o, six seven" blah blah, they should say "zero" but they use the letter "o" instead. its interchangeable in most senses, people use "maru" for "zero" when giving out numbers quite a bit. so it is probably more likely zero, but it doesn't really matter that much. also, according to the ringohan newsletter: they asked Ringo her impressions about the videos on the forthcoming DVD and she pretty much had to say almost nothing. they asked her to talk about each one and for almost all of them she said that they went with the director's vision so she didn't have anything specific in mind while filming. each video is supposedly a different face of Ringo (except ariamaru tomi). Ryuukou is the cool, Shun is the sexy, Iroikoizata is the bold, Tsugou no Ii Karada is the smiling. they didn't mention Maru, so there is probably not a legit video for it. also, just a reminder, the analogue Saturday Night Gossip has an alternative version of Mittei no Monogatari on it. The rest are album versions, but that might be interesting. (I'm thinking it might just be same backing track with Japanese lyrics...) |

Saturday Night Gossip version may be like a disco version with Japanese lyrics =P
It's kind of relieving to hear that she didn't have anything to do with the videos, tbh. The ones so far aren't my favourite. And Iroikoizata the 'bold' Ringo video?! |

Zero Chiten Kara is somehow my favorite track on the album now. There isn't anything special about it, but it appeals to me. It's most likely the nice hook and the overall simplicity of the song that makes it breath of fresh air.
